MOT

An MOT is a visual check to make sure your vehicle meets safety and environmental standards. An MOT is done annually after the third anniversary of your vehicle registration. You can get an MOT up to a month (minus a day) before it runs out and keep the same renewal date. A Class 4 MOT is for standard passenger cars, small vans, and light commercial vehicles over three years old.

During the MOT test, the tester, a person accredited by the DVSA to assess your vehicle, will conduct a comprehensive inspection to ensure the vehicle is in roadworthy condition. However, it is not the same as having your car serviced and the MOT test does not check the general health of the vehicle. Also, the MOT only assesses the condition of the vehicle on the day, passing an MOT does not guarantee the condition for example that the tyres will be ok for the coming 12 months.

If your car unfortunately fails, you get a free retest within 10 working days of the original test starting the next working day.
